Tube Challenge League Tables

Alternative Tube Challenges

Last updated: 15th July 2024.
New records set for Zone 1 and London Overground challenges.
New times added for many challenges.

Welcome to the Tube Challenge League Tables website here on Explorer Ticket.

This site was setup to inform and record the details of the various "alternative Tube challenges" that can be attempted on London's railway network.

You may have heard about the Tube Challenge whereby people attempt to visit all 270 London Underground stations in the fastest time (and possibly gain a Guinness World Record in the process). Therefore an "alternative tube challenge" is just a scaled down version of the full Tube Challenge concentrating on just one network or a smaller area, thus many of the alternative challenges listed below are of much shorter duration, making them ideal for an afternoon or weekend (when the full Tube Challenge cannot be completed), bring your friends along too. A list of the current challenges that may be attempted is shown below.

Alphabet Challenge.

The aim of this challenge is to visit a London Underground station beginning with every letter of the alphabet (except J, X, Y and Z. There are no LU stations beginning with these letters). The stations you choose must be visited in strict alphabet order, so depart a station beginning with A, visit one beginning with B, visit one beginning with C and so on. Stations passed through in between do not count for other letters, therefore if your "B" station is Bank and "C" is Chancery Lane you cannot count St. Paul's as "S" in between.

All Lines Challenge.

The aim of this challenge is to travel between at least two stations on ALL eleven London Underground lines. Beware that where two or more lines share the same stretch of track you must travel on the trains of ALL the lines involved for them all to be valid. A trip between Euston Square and King's Cross only counts for the line your train is described as (say a Circle) it does not mean you have done the Circle, H&C and Met together!

All the Actons Challenge

A great new mini challenge, visit all 7 Acton stations that feature on the Tube Map.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Circle Line "Bottle" Challenge.

The aim is to visit all 50 London Underground stations that lie on or within the "classic" Circle Line on a standard Tube Map. Please note that despite being OUTSIDE the Circle line on the current version of the Tube map, the stations of Marylebone and Edgware Road (Bakerloo) are included within this challenge. Paddington (H&C) and all stations west thereof down to Hammersmith do NOT need to be visited on this challenge.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mouse Challenge

The aim of this challenge is to visit all 33 London Underground stations that make up "The Mouse." The Mouse is all stations on and within both Central London branches of the Northern line between Camden Town and Kennington.

NOTE: Newer editions of the Tube Map show Euston Square as outside of "The Mouse" but Euston Square is included within this challenge (as it is inside the Northern line) and that whilst Bank obviously needs to be visited, Monument does not as it lies outside of the Northern line.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parks Challenge

The aim is to visit all 24 London Underground stations that have the word "Park" in the name... but there is a twist. As well as visiting each station you must take an exterior photo of the station clearly showing the station name (from the street/exiting the ticket barriers) before carrying on to the next station. This challenge is traditionally attempted in December around Christmas time.

Random 15 Challenge

The Random 15 challenge differs from all the other alternative challenges as there is not a pre determined fixed set of stations to visit. The Random 15 challenge consists of visiting 15 randomly generated stations (from the London Underground Tube Map) selected using certain criteria before the challenge commences. To avoid being sent all over the system, stations drawn are generally kept within Zones 1 and 2 (except during certain twist rounds). As the stations for this challenge are produced at random, the time taken to visit all 15 stations on the list can, of course, vary depending on the stations drawn out. This challenge is very good for weekends when engineering works are taking place, as you can dodge around them!
